If the Worst Comes to the Worst Dictator Giving When Recipient’s Endowments are Risky

چکیده
Donors may often not be sure whether a recipient really deserves their help. Does this uncertainty deter generosity? In an experiment we find that, to the contrary, under most specifications of uncertainty, dictators give more, compared with the donation the same dictator makes to a recipient they know to have the expected value of the endowment with certainty. They are particularly concerned about the possibility that a recipient leaves the lab with no payoff from the game. JEL: C91, D03, D81

Beliefs and Social Preferences
Why do people sacrifice to help others in some situations, but not in others? Besides a direct taste for helping others, I study three additional psychological motivations that involve beliefs: social-signaling, which holds that a person wants others to think of her as fair-minded; self-signaling, which says she would like to think of herself that way; and beliefs-based altruism, which says tha...
متن کاملDictating the risk – experimental evidence on giving in risky environments
We study if and how social preferences extend to risky environments. We provide experimental evidence from different versions of dictator games with risky outcomes, and establish that preferences that are exclusively based on ex post or on ex ante comparisons cannot generate the observed behavioral patterns. The more money decision-makers transfer in the standard dictator game, the more likely ...
متن کاملاستوارسازی مدلهای DEA برای شناسایی واحدهای دارای بدترین عملکرد
An original data envelopment analysis (DEA) model is to evaluate each decision-making unit (DMU) with a set of most favorable weights of performance indices to finding worst-practice DMUs. Indeed classical DEA models evaluate each DMUs compared to the most effective DMU. Since in this way the relative efficiency is calculated, therefore at least one of the DMUs are located on the efficiency fro...

The majority of sustainability assessments of the bio based industries are primarily focused on the environmental and economic aspects, while social impacts are rarely considered. While overlooking social dimension can have a serious harmful impact across supply chains. To address this issue, this study proposes a modified systemic approach for a social sustainability impact assessment of the te...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Tsunami Waves Associated With Worst Earthquake Scenarios of the Makran Subduction Zone in the Jask Port, Iran
The recent studies show that the past researches may have significantly underestimated earthquake and tsunami hazard in the Makran Subduction Zone (MSZ) and this region is potentially capable of producing major earthquakes. In this study, the worst case possible earthquake scenarios of the MSZ are simulated using fully nonlinear boussinesq model to investigate tsunami hazards on the Jask Port, ...
